About department. The Department was founded in 1970.  Corresponding Member of the NAS of Ukraine Yu.G.Gololobov chaired the Department up to 1981, since 1982 Professor A.D.Sinitsa is the Head of the Department. The staff of the Department consists of 2 Doctors of Science, 9 Ph.D.’s, 12 researchers and engineers.

Research directions. The priority research direction for the department is development of scientific principles for creation of highly reactive synthons, as basic structures for synthesis of compounds with pre-designed structure and biological activity, search for new synthetic strategies for biorelevant derivatives of aminophosphonic and aminocarboxylic acids, based on iminophosphonates and iminocarboxylates; search for new types of unsaturated systems – for creation, on their basis, of practically useful acyclic, cyclic and heterocyclic compounds. The department houses highly electrophilic functionalized imines in asymmetric synthesis of fluorine-containing aminocarboxylic and aminophosphonic acids, development of fluoroalkyl-substituted aminocycloalkanes with varying ring length, as new promising building blocks for targeted synthesis of compounds for medical and agrochemical uses.

Main scientific and applied milestones of the department. Formulation of main principles for creation of element-substituted heteroallylic and heterodiene systems, inclined to rearrangements and connected with migrations of proton, chlorine, phosphorus-, sulfur-containing and unsaturated groups, have been formulated.. New fundamental transformations have been found, including 1,3-Н isomerization of iminoalkylphosphonates that mimics biochemical transamination reaction, allowing introduction into organic synthesis of new reactive imines and azadienes, that became a basis for new synthetic strategy, including asymmetric synthesis, for acyclic and heterocyclic derivatives of aminophosphonic, diphosphonic, amino carboxylic and unsaturated amino phosphonic acids – basic structures for further synthesis of potential  inhibitors of HIV-protease, antimicrobial and antiviral compounds. Highly efficient growth regulators have been introduced – “Triamelon” for vegetables, melons and watermelons, “Simarp” for grains and potatoes. Efficient bactericides and fluorinated analogs of anticancer product fotemustine have been synthesized. A new, powerful inhalable anesthetic (cis)-1,2-bis(trifluoromethyl)cyclopropane has been developed. Among other developments are stabilizers for diene hydrocarbons, epoxy resin modifiers, foam polyurethane production catalyst.
