The Laboratory of Medico-biological researches (as part of the Department #5, current title Department of Macrocyclic Chemistry) of Institute of Organic Chemistry NAS Of Ukraine was organized at 2011 after restructuration of the Department of Medico-biological Investigations
Doctor of chemical sciences, senior researcher Roman V. Rodik, heads the Laboratory. Two senior researchers (part-time) as well as engineer and three technicians are employed in the Laboratory.
There are several directions of the scientific activity of the Laboratory. Traditional field of activity is toxicological evaluation of the compounds synthesized in the Institute.
Investigation of hypoglycemic activity of the synthesized in the Institute compounds were established in the Laboratoty with assistance of doctor of medical sciences Yarosh Olexandr. A series of new N-sulfonylcarbamidocalix[4]arenes and thiacalix[4]arenes were tested and it was found that these macrocycles able to decrease glucose concentration in blood of the lab animals in vivo [1]. Their hypoglycemic effect is increasing more gradually then Glibenclamide and has significant prolonged character. It was also shown, that hypoglycemic activity of N-acylcarbamidocalixarenes is exceed “The Gold Standart” Glibenclamide in efficiency and duration of action [2].
A new series of tricyclic derivatives of thiazolindiones that were synthesized in the Department of Chemistry of Functional Heterocycle Systems were investigated as hypoglicemic agents in comparison with Pioglitazone drug. The compounds, which are notably surpassed Pioglitazone were identified [3,4,5,6].
Methods for studying of the antidepressant and hepatoprotective properties of synthesized substances in alcoholic toxicosis conditions have been introduced.
Investigations in the field of design and evaluation of Nitrogen- and Phosphorus-containing calixarenes as modulators ATP-dependent smooth muscle hydrolase systems are carried out on collaboration of Academician Sergiy Kosterin (Palladin Institute of Biochemistry NAS of Ukraine) [7,8,9].
