The department was organized by Academician O.V. Kirsanov on the basis of the pesticide laboratory created in 1951. From 1956 to 1978, the department was headed by Prof. V.I. Shevchenko, from 1978 to 2009, Prof. O.M. Pinchuk. Since 2009, the department has been headed by Prof. O.M. Kostiuk. The department employs 2 professors and 9 PhDs. The department includes a laboratory of chemical processes under pressure, which is headed by PhD O.O. Yurchenko.
The main scientific direction of the department is the theoretical and practical development of the chemistry of organophosphorus compounds. The department conducts fundamental research on developing fundamentally new preparative methods for obtaining acyclic and heterocyclic compounds with C-P and N-P bonds. The department's applied research is related to the use of organophosphorus compounds as biologically active substances, complexing agents, catalysts, and reagents in organic and elemental-organic synthesis and metal complex catalysis.
Main scientific and practical achievements of the department.
A powerful electrophilic reagent was obtained - a new analogue of the "Alder dimer", with the help of which new N-PV- and PIII-substituted Νʹ -phenyl, Νʹʹ -dialkyl formamidinium salts were synthesized - precursors of acyclic N-phosphorylated diamino carbenes. The catalytic activity of the obtained ligand complexes was investigated depending on the change in the character of the heterocycle, the substituents at the phosphorus atom, and electronic and spatial factors concerning the metal atom. The resulting complexes were studied in cross-coupling and catalytic hydrogenation for the effective synthesis of compounds used in medical practice.
Cyclic and acyclic carbenes are actively studied in the department. They are used as ligands for various metals and as reagents in organic chemistry.
A new latent nucleophilic agent - silylformamidine was synthesized, which exists in equilibrium with its carbene form due to the migration of the trimethylsilyl group from the carbon atom to the nitrogen atom. Its catalyst-free interaction with a series of aromatic compounds, namely, benzene, thiophene, and pyridine derivatives containing electron-withdrawing groups, was investigated, and a series of corresponding benzene, thiophene, and pyridine aldehydes were obtained by hydrolysis of the aminals. The dependence of the reaction rate on the number of halogen atoms in the cycle was shown. Synthesized polyhalogeno-substituted aromatic aldehydes can be used as unique building blocks for medical chemistry needs.
The reaction of N-alkyl(aryl)pyrazoles with silylformamidine was also investigated. It was shown that the introduction of a carbene into pyrazoles activated by electron-withdrawing groups occurred selectively at the 5-position with the formation of the corresponding aminals, the hydrolysis of which gave the corresponding pyrazolecarbaldehydes. Methanolysis of aminals made it possible to obtain N-methylimines of pyrazolocarbaldehydes
A new method for the synthesis of medium-sized cyclic azasultams was proposed, based on the reductive cleavage of annealed 5,6-dihydro-2H-1,2,4-thiadiazine-1,1-dioxides with sodium cyanoborohydride. New methods of synthesis of functionalized 10- and 11-membered azalactams by reductive cleavage of bicyclic dihydropyrimidones and their quaternary salts were developed. The obtained azalactams were used as starting materials for further synthesis of annelated imidazole and tetrazole derivatives. Synthesized macrocyclic azasultams and azalactams, which are difficult to obtain by other methods, are cyclic analogs of natural polyamines spermine and spermidine and can be used in pharmaceutical chemistry.
